Mercer University seeks an outstanding individual to become the next Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer for the College and reports directly to the Provost.
The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024.
Located on the 130-acre campus in Macon, Georgia, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the growing, dynamic, and diverse cornerstone of the University's undergraduate presence as well as its oldest and largest academic division.
With a deep commitment to liberal education, over 130 full time faculty members offer nearly 40 academic programs in the arts, humanities, natural sciences, physical sciences, and social sciences.
Additionally, the faculty provide the general education of the 3,400 traditional students enrolled in the College and in the other four Macon traditional undergraduate schools (business, education, engineering, and music).
The College upholds Mercer's fundamental commitments to academic excellence and service.
In the past five years, Mercer students have earned twelve Goldwater Scholarships, twenty Fulbright Scholarships, eleven NSF Graduate Research Fellowships, seven Critical Language Scholarships, and dozens of other nationally-competitive fellowships and scholarships.
Mercer is the nation's top producer of Gilman Scholars among schools with fewer than 5,000 undergraduates.
Mercer is also one of only three Georgia universities that both shelter a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and hold membership in the Georgia Research Alliance.

Responsibilities:
The Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences provides leadership both for the faculty within the college and among the administration of the wider University.
As head of the Liberal Arts and Sciences faculty, the Dean presides over College faculty meetings, works with an elected Executive Committee to set goals and directions for the College, and coordinates with departmental chairs to implement the College's curriculum and programs.
The Dean also prepares and administers operating budgets within the College, reviews the development of tenured and untenured faculty members, and has responsibility for most College personnel issues involving faculty members and staff.
Finally, the Dean represents the College in Deans' Council meetings, serves as liaison to the Provost's Office, and works with a variety of other offices within the University (e.
g.
, Advancement and Enrollment Management) in order to advance Mercer's mission.
Two Associate Deans assist with the day-to-day administration of the College's business.
Qualifications:
A successful candidate for this position will possess many, if not all, of the following qualities and dispositions:
A Ph.
D.
or other terminal degree in a liberal arts and sciences discipline from an accredited university or college and a distinguished record appropriate for appointment as a tenured professor A record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and administration Advanced leadership experience in academic or academically related organizations Administrative and technological skills necessary to oversee the work of the College, including strategic planning, budgeting, and resource management A commitment to promote the future of liberal arts and sciences in higher education and American society A willingness to support the University's global service initiatives A willingness to foster and develop collaborative initiatives with other academic divisions within the University A willingness to appreciate Mercer's historical and continuing commitment to its founding principles of intellectual freedom and respect for others' beliefs Background Check:

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
